Knowing about Turkish foods is like reading history book, so old with many surprising delicious fact. İt might because mostly Turkish cuisine is the heritage of Ottoman cuisine from centuries ago.
It is also has mixture and refinement of Central Asian, Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisines. Therefore it is impossible to fit Turkish cuisine into a short list.
İncluding my post today is one of daily meal which mostly Turkish mothers serve for the family. Köfteli patates is home style meal that served generation to generation. Every kids fan of their mom's version of this food 😍
İt's a potato cook in tomato sauce, adding small meatball to meet the family taste. Some version adding ground beef instead of meatballs. Sprinkle with dried mint leaves this meal is a must to try when you visit Turkiye.
Or just make it at home to experience the flavor of Turkey for your family.
Serve 3-4
For meatball:
- 250 gr ground beef ( 10% fat)
- 3-4 Tbsp bread crumb
- 1 medium onion, finely shredded
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper powder
- pinch of cumin powder
- 1 Tbsp flour (for coating)
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 big or 2 medium (about 400 gr) potato, cut into cubes
- 1½ Tbsp tomato paste
- 3-4 cup of water
- block bouillon (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- dried mint (for serving)
How to make:
Make meatball; Mix all ingredients for meatball except flour and knead well to combine. Pinch small amount and shape like small balls. Coat them onto 1 Tbsp flour, set a side.
Heat olive oil in medium pot, add in meatball and shake your pan to make the meatball cook all over. Add in tomato pasta and water (you can use bouillon) and stir well.
Add bouillon block (optional) and salt, stir and cover until bubbling and potato soft.
Serve warm with sprinkle of dried mint leaves.
