Meatball is the number one favorite of my family. And since I live in Türkiye making meatballs is my routine. In Turkish, we call it Köfte.

You may remember my previous Turkish Meatball Kofta with Cheesy Ember-Roasted Aubergine. That's one of the Turkish signature dishes where you can find some fancy restaurants.

Tas Kebab is a Turkish style meat stew. The meat used can vary like beef, lamb, or veal. One of traditional home meal that serves at local restaurants here.
It is one of the meat dishes sitting in the corner of the Ottoman kitchen. It got its name from the way it is cooked. Traditionally it cooks in a copper pan.

This dish can be served with Turkish bread or with Turkish pilav (rice).

In addition, traditionally, while tas kebab was served, yogurt with garlic was also served.

İt has been a while I didn't post anything. Been Veeerrryyy busy moving house. Last month we were moving into our new apartment. And I love our new home 🏠. Many sunshine with a beautiful Bursa view from our balcony.

Moving house is pretty much exhausting. Packing and more packing especially with many glassware and small things from my kitchen.
Well... finally we made it. Even today I still have some boxes not opened yet, but at least we already (almost) have normal routine life again. Especially I can cook in my new kitchen 😊

Anyway.. this is my late post. I made this braised beef tongue a few weeks ago before we were moving out. This is one of our repeatable menus in our home. I made this many times. So I can assure you gonna love it too.

For some people eating offal or another part of an animal sounds gross. Or maybe some of you just don't know how to prepare or cook them.

Offal could be delicious as normal meat if we know how to cook it, for example, cow's feet (or legs) or (beef) tongue. You can be hooked once you taste a delicious meal using those animal parts because it is prepared correctly and cook in a clever way. 

Today I am going to share a tip on how to prepare and cook beef tongue. Beef tongue is lean meat that can be very tasty. But when you didn't cook it properly it can be pretty chewy and almost rubbery.

Since it's quite lean as I mentioned above, it'll take some time to cook to have a butter-soft texture which we look for. Some said 30 minutes per pound, some said an hour. 
Personally, I didn't really use a timer or whatsoever, İ just cooked and check my beef (ox) tongue periodically and test it by inserting a big fork in the thickest part of the tongue, when it easily slip off from the fork it's done.

Turkish Food Recipe; Köfteli Patates Yemeği / Potato and meatballs in tomato sauce

Knowing about Turkish foods is like reading history book, so old with many surprising delicious fact. İt might because mostly Turkish cuisine is the heritage of Ottoman cuisine from centuries ago. 

It is also has mixture and refinement of Central Asian, Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisines. Therefore it is impossible to fit Turkish cuisine into a short list.

İncluding my post today is one of daily meal which mostly Turkish mothers serve for the family. Köfteli patates is home style meal that served generation to generation. Every kids fan of their mom's version of this food 😍


İt's a potato cook in tomato sauce, adding small meatball to meet the family taste. Some version adding ground beef instead of meatballs. Sprinkle with dried mint leaves this meal is a must to try when you visit Turkiye.

Tongseng is goat meat, mutton, or beef stew dish in curry-like soup with cabbage and kecap manis (sweet soy sauce). Tongseng is commonly found in Indonesian region of Central Java; from Surakarta to Yogyakarta. However, it is believed that dish was originated from Klego district in Boyolali, Central Java. Traditionally, tongseng is considered as the merge between satay and gulai

The soup of tongseng is similar to gulai soup, however gulai is cooked without sweet soy sauce while tongseng mostly appears in brownish gold colour because of the addition of sweet soy sauce. Gulai usually uses beef's offal while tongseng usually only uses meat (goat, mutton or beef).


Today, tongseng is a common dish in Javanese cities of Boyolali, Surakarta (Solo), Klaten, and Yogyakarta, thus most of tongseng sellers hailed from those towns. The dish is also can be found in Indonesian major cities, such as Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya. Tongseng sellers usually marketed themselves as Warung Sate Solo, a warung or small modest restaurant that specialized in offering satay, tongseng and gulai as their main fare.

Assalamu'alaikum....Merhaba dari Turkey.

Menu ini paling sering disajikan oleh Ibuk saya di rumah. Pokoknya selalu ada giliran kalau gak telur masak kecap, telur masak petis, ayam masak petis atau ayam masak kecap ini.
Tapi yang paling sering kena "giliran" ya ayam kecap ini. Mungkin karena praktis masaknya, terus murah (dibanding daging-dagingan) juga seluruh anggota rumah pasti doyan.

Beda kalau pas Ibuk masak sayur, salah satu adik saya pasti dikit makannya. Atau pas masak seafood, mas saya juga dikit ambilnya. Yang paling "gak nolak" semua makanan ya saya ini...hehehehe... Saya nggak cerewet dan doyan semua! (^,^)

Sekarang, pas sudah rumah tangga sendiri ternyata ayam masak kecap ini juga lumayan sering saya bikin~walau tetap ada menu ala Turki buat suami saya. Anak saya suka asal tidak pedas. Jadi kadang saya pisahin dikit buat dia yang ggak pedas, sisanya saya kasih irisan cabe rawit dan tambahin merica hitamnya biar nendang makannya (^,^)
Bagi yang gak terlalu suka pedas, cabe rawitnya diutuhin saja atau pakai irisan cawe keriting saja. Namanya masakan rumahan, sesuai selera masing-masing saja ya.

My today post is my favorite dish; Kari ayam or Indonesian chicken curry. This kari ayam I served on my family dinner table together with famed roti jala. In case you missed my roti jala recipe, you can check it here.

Kari or curry is one of the diversity of Indonesian food. This dish believed derived by Indian influence to Indonesia. Read more about Indonesian cuisine at bottom part of this post.

We have many kind of curry "bumbu" version too. "Bumbu" is the Indonesian word for spice or seasoning, and it commonly appears in the names of spice mixtures, sauces and seasoning pastes. 
Beside variation from ingredient used like chicken, lamb, beef or vegetables, curry "bumbu" also has some variation, eg. green curry, red, or yellow curry.


And today I am going to share my chicken red curry. This dish was one of food which my mom often to cook for us. Or if we celebrate something, this food is "a must" food together with other celebration's dish (we call it kenduren or selamatan)

Different from other region (like North Sumatra and Riau Islands) where they serve it with roti jala, in Java mostly we eat this curry with steamed rice together with chilly sambal and cucumber or pickle.

This recipe I get from my mom. If you search for curry recipe on the net I'm sure you will find hundreds of it. But for this curry my mom recipe is worth to try! Nothing more authentic and delicious than my mom's. Yup..mom's recipe is always my best! ^,^

Masih dalam suasana Idhul Fitri.... saya ingin sampaikan salam selamat hari raya Idhul Fitri 1 syahwal 1436 H..Mohon Maaf lahir dan bathin.

Memang kalau jauh dari tanah air... membuat kita makin menghargai tradisi yang dulu sewaktu kita di tanah air tidak terlalu kita perhatikan -- yang suatu saat kita akan rindukan...

Hal sekecil apapun yang biasa kita dapatkan di tanah air, kini menjadi suatu memori yang sangat berharga dan selalu ingin kita hidupkan kembali di tanah yang jauh dari kampung halaman kita...

Seperti halnya Lebaran yang kali ini saya lewati di Turki. Lebaran Idhul Fitri di Turki mempunyai nuansa yang berbeda dari lebaran di Indonesia- walau setiap orang sama bersemangat menyambutnya.  

Di Indonesia lebaran identik dengan aneka kue kering dan ketupat. Idhul Fitri di Turki terasa kurang jika tidak ada "baklava" dan permen/ turkish delight. Setiap rumah pasti menyajikan baklava untuk kerabat, teman dan sanak keluarga yang berkunjung di hari lebaran idhul fitri - dalam bahasa turkinya " Ramazan Bayram" atau kadang disebut "Şeker Bayram"

Baklava adalah pastry berlapis dengan isian semacam kacang kenari/ walnut atau dengan isian pistachio, dioven lalu disiram dengan sirup gula kental atau madu. Jadi bisa dibayangkan rasanya yang sangat manis legit dan gurih.

Tahun ini saya tidak sediakan Baklava di rumah. Hanya supaya tidak kehilangan nuansa "Şeker Bayram" (yang artinya Lebaran permen) saya juga sediakan permen coklat bikinan sendiri selain aneka kue kering khas Indonesia. Inshaalloh untuk permen coklat homemade akan saya posting terpisah.

Opor ayam kuning / Indonesian food recipe: Yellow Chicken braised in coconut milk

My first post in 2015. İt's İndonesian style yellow chicken braised in coconut milk. İt's been quite sometimes İ didn't eat anything made by coconut milk. Beside coconut milk is very rare and expensive thing here in Turkey, also İ'm not really fan of meal in coconut milk-- İ mean as main dish or side dish. İ like coconut (any part of it, e.g coconut water, coconut milk, fresh coconut flesh) but as dessert. İndonesia as part of Asia country has various dessert with coconut as main ingredients ( check my other post about İndonesian dessert and snack).

This Opor ayam kuning recipe İ get from my mom. She normally uses free caged chicken ( we call it ayam kampung) which have tastier meat. And in my hometown we make fresh coconut milk from fresh coconut which easily found in any corner of our alley... How İ miss my hometown....
