Rosettes / Honeycomb Fried Cookies / Kuih Loyang / Kembang Goyang

Resep dalam Bhs Indonesia bisa dilihat disini

Selam.... Merhaba from Türkiye everybody 👋

First of all, I's like to thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you can come back, again and again, to check up any beyond Indonesian or Turkish food or something sweets that you might love. Your comments and emails brighten my days and make this simple blog thing worthwhile 😍💛

Rosettes / Honeycomb Fried Cookies / Kuih Loyang / Kembang Goyang

In Indonesian we call it "Kembang Goyang", its traditional snack from Indonesia.
Kembang means flower. Goyang literally means shaking. Cause we shake the mold (mostly flower shape) after dip into batter and fry in hot oil to release the cookie.

In old time, Indonesian made this cookies only for special occasion such as wedding ceremony, circumcision ceremony or other traditional ceremony. Also during some religious holiday celebration.

Kembang Goyang basically made of rice flour which is mixed with eggs, sugar, a pinch of salt, and coconut milk. Even though some recipe use tapioca starch and or flour to enrich the texture. It is super crispy and ultra-thin, you'll enjoy not only 3 or 4 pieces ... you want to take 1 jar! 😄

Other combinations also on color and flavors. Mostly we find this snack in mild sweet flavor, but sometimes people make it savory as well. Adding traditional pandan flavor and color is common. If you want to play around with colors and flavors try with rose-pink color, or ginger-yellow. I remember my late grandmother added mild ginger flavor in it.
Adding sesame seeds also can be vary- just like what I made today.

Rosettes / Honeycomb Fried Cookies / Kuih Loyang / Kembang Goyang

This fried snack also famous to neighboring countries with different name. In Malaysia, Singapore, Brunai , Thailand and further more. Some call it rosette cookies, lotus cookies or kueh loyang. Or behieve / honeycomb cookies, depends on the mold shape used.

Naahh... setelah nyingkirin rasa males.. akhirnya kesampaian bikin kembang goyang lagi.

Selam........
Merhaba from Türkiye 👋

Indonesia has many....probably hundreds of variants of snacks. Start from traditional snacks e.g many kinds of kueh basah (literally means wet / moist snacks), fried snacks (in Indonesian call gorengan) and other type of jajanan (snacks) mostly known as street food/ snack; for example batagor, siomay, kerak telur and more.
Kueh basah are more often steamed than baked and normally have a sweet taste, but some are savory as well. But not all of them using a steamed method, named kue basah mostly because they are moist.

Just like what İ want to share today. İt's including in kue basah- calls "Bolu kukus mekar". İt's a cup cake-like, cooked by steam process instead of bake in oven.  We call it "Bolu Kukus Mekar" in Indonesian language. Bolu means cake, Kukus= Steamed and "Mekar" means blooming like a flower.
As you can see on my pictures here the steamed cup cake has crack surface like blooming.
This is also one of Indonesian traditional snack that been exist from long time ago.

My 1st post in year 2019. I know.... been a while. But İnshaallah I will not quit writing and share my passion for cooking.
When I was younger I cooked for my siblings and my family since my mom worked at that time and mostly already tired after that.

My aunties also master in cooking. She cooked for the crowd and she was good on it. Took orders from neighbors and friends.
But since she's getting older now, she refuses some request for healthy reason.
But my younger aunt still do it.

Indonesian shrimp cake "dragon leg". Freezer friendly (Kaki Naga Udang)

Resep dalam bhs İndonesia ada dibagian bawah.

Selam everybody.....Merhaba from Turkey.

Indonesian cuisine often demonstrates complex flavour, acquired from certain ingredients and bumbu spices mixture. Indonesian dishes have rich flavours; most often described as gurih (savory which equates to umami) and pedas (hot and spicy), and also combination of basic tastes such as manis (sweet), asin (salty), asam (sour) and pahit (bitter).
Seven main Indonesian cooking methods are goreng (frying), bakar (roasting) or panggang (grilling), tumis (sautéing), sangrai (roasted), rebus (boiling) and kukus (steaming).

Throughout it's history, İndonesian has been involved in trade due to its location and natural resources. Additionally İndonesian indigenous techniques and ingredient were influenced by İndia, middle eastern, China, even Europe.

And as an archipelago country with the longest coastline on earth İndonesia has countless type of fish and seafood as protein source beside poultry and meat.

And my today post is one of everybody's favorite and any kids will love it, call "kaki naga". "Kaki naga" literally means dragon feet 😊 . Don't ask me why we call this food dragon feet.. İ don't think it's looking like dragon feet either 😃.

Anyway, this "kaki naga" mostly using minced fish as main ingredient, sometime combine with chicken or shrimp as well. But today İ am going to share shrimp version of "kaki naga" / dragon feet. İ combine with chicken meat to ease the sharpness of shrimp taste and also to add the texture of final product because when İ use whole shrimp, sometimes it ends up with more runny batter.

So.. if you are ready to try new cuisine for your family.. note this recipe down. Believe me your kids would love it too! 😏
And more...it's freezer friendly and can be another idea for your kid's or your family lunch box!

Selam everybody....Merhaba from Turkey.

Wingko Babat is one of the old Indonesian traditional snack (jajan Pasar) which may already exist decades ago together with other some traditional snack/ food. Made from grated coconut and glutinous rice flour as main ingredient. Wingko is very famous on the northern coast of the island of Java.

Check category Indonesian Snack (jajan pasar/ kue) for more Indonesian Kueh or snack.

The most famous Wingko is made in Semarang. It causes a lot of people who think that wingko also came from this city. Nonetheless, wingko babat actually comes from small town calls "Babat" . It is a small area in Lamongan, East Java.

Wingko mostly has round shape but is sometimes presented in small square chunks at warm or room temperature. Has a slightly soft yet somewhat chewy texture. Sweet taste and is so aromatic from vanilla or sometimes pandan.

Today I'm going to share this favorite ever of mine in Pandan taste. You can check my previous Wingko Babat recipe for the original taste here. For this pandan flavor İ bake in oven and cut into portion, different from pancake version. But if you want to cook over pan / round shape feel free to do so, check the link İ give above.

So let's gather some ingredients and experience the traditional Indonesian sweet for your afternoon tea/ coffee.

Cook with splash of olive oil and lemon. Then serve hot or room temperature with sarımsaklı yogurt (garlic yogurt sauce) and /or ezme (meze).
Originating in Turkey and spreading all over Mediterranean, Middle east, east Europe and beyond.

Turkish Spice Roasted Chicken Wings/ Fırında Kızarmış Tavuk Kanat

Selam everybody......Merhaba from Turkey.

Question of the day; what chicken part is your favorite?

Telling you honestly..... I love chicken feet. İ know..İ know.. some of you maybe will stick your tongue out 😝 😝 . İt sound gross for some of you. Cause maybe you never eat that or even think to eat it. But believe me it's good! Mostly İndonesian and some Asian countries eat chicken feet.
Chicken feet rich of glucosamine chondroitin, collagen and trace minerals. Moreover, a chicken feet stock is an excellent source of calcium

Sadly İ can not find any chicken feet in Turkey from any butcher here so İ won't talk more about it and İ should wait until İ get home to İndonesia soon 😊

Second list of my fave chicken part of course wings! Who doesn't love wings.
The yummiest chicken part and every body's favorite snack however people cook it or whatever glazing sauce with it.

My daughter is very much picky on food and doesn't eat too much, but whenever there is chicken wings she could eat them more as İ thought. So almost once in few days İ cook chicken wing just for her.
Sometimes İ made her crunchy chicken wing and she loves to dip it in cheese sauce. Or simple Honey garlic chicken wings. But most of her fave is this Fırında Kızarmış Tavuk kanat literally mean oven roasted chicken wings.

This chicken wing is actually my copycat taste from rotisserie chicken wing seller here in city where İ live (or maybe other cities in Turkey). And make them at home is satisfy me not just in fresh taste but also much saving in budget.
By making it at home we can control the freshness of chicken wings we use, of course.

Lento dari Kacang tunggak / Indonesian style Black eyed peas fritter

Please Scroll down for recipe in English

Assalamu'alaykum...Merhaba dari Turkey.

Kalau sudah mulai masuk musim dingin kayak gini maunya pengen nyemil yang gurih dan pedas. Terus minumnya teh panas.... halllaa... apa'an sih. Musim dingin dijadiin alesan...heheheh..padahal kalau mo ngemil..ngemil aja kali ya.... (^,^)

Lagi pengen makan lento nih.

Selam everybody....Merhaba from Turkey.

Start from traditional snacks e.g many kind of kueh basah (literally means wet snacks), fried snacks (in bahasa call gorengan) and other type of jajanan (snacks) mostly known as street food/ snack; for example batagor, siomay, kerak telur and more.
Kueh basah are more often steamed than baked and normally have sweet taste, but some are savory as well.

Each type has very long list of snacks variant. Check some of them on my "snack" category list. And what I am going to share today is Pastel isi bihun, means fried dumpling filled with vermicelli noodle. You can fill it also with vegetable like my previous post here or mini version with beef/chicken floss here.

Just like many other Indonesian who enjoy tea/ coffee time with many kind snacks with it, I made this snack for my light breakfast or just evening coffee.

There are two parts should prepared to make this snack; filling and skin shell. I usually make vermicelli noodle first before prepare the skin dough. Or sometimes if I have some left over of fried vermicelli I previously made, I prefer use it for the filling.

So..are you interesting make one of Indonesian snack like this pastel bihun.... let's knead some dough now... 😊

Kaastengels bunga / Kaastengels cookies, Indonesian classic cookies

Selam everybody..Merhaba from Turkey.

Kastengel or kue keju is Dutch-Indonesian cheese cookie in the form of stick, commonly found in the Netherlands and Indonesia. The name describe its ingredients, shape and origin; kaas is Dutch word for "cheese", while stengels is also Dutch word for "stick". Unlike most cookies, kaasstengels taste savoury and salty instead of sweet.

In Indonesia, owed to its colonial links to the Netherlands, kaasstengels, together with nastar and kue putri salju are the popular kue kering (dried kue or cookie) during festive occasion, such as Natal (Christmas) and Lebaran(Eid al Fitr).

Kaastengels on the other hand, refer to Dutch hapjes (snacks) of "cheese-fingers", derived from Dutch kaas (cheese) and tengels (fingers). It is a small spring roll or loempia-like crepe of the size of a finger, filled with gouda or edam cheese, which have been deep fried and served with a small bowl of a spicy chili sauce.

Even though it derived from Dutch, Indonesian kaastengels cookie a bit different from the Dutch version which is fried. But still it's cheesy snacks and it's gooooddd!

And today I am going to share my kaastengels but on flower shape, so maybe the name become kaas-bloeien (flower) not kaastengels anymore...... 😂
anyone know Dutch language? (^,^) correct me if I'm wrong.

ALso you can check my previous classic kaastengels here.
