This peanut cookie is one of many other Indonesian traditional cookies. I grew up eating these cookies.
It is made from a dough of flour, powdered sugar, cooking oil, and peanuts as the basic ingredients. and then baked in the oven until cooked.

It has a crumble texture and melts in your mouth, it's typical indeed for this cookie. 

These peanut cookies are usually made and served on holidays, such as Eid-ul-Fitr, Christmas, or Chinese New Year. But it isn't impossible to find it in traditional markets or some bakery shops daily.

The shape can vary, whether round, star-shaped, half-moon-shaped, flower-shaped, or heart-shaped. But the heart shape is the most popular one. You can check my previous peanut cookie recipe here with heart shape.

Cookies are one of the snacks I am never bored making and creating for a new flavor. Every day must be at least a jar full of cookies at our house 🍪

Besides other desserts or other meals, I bake cookies at least once a week. So if you visit my house.. don't worry... you always get cookies to accompany our tea or coffee 🍵
For me, drinking tea without snacks or cakes or pastries doesn't taste very good.

This cookie is a Dutch-influenced cookie due to the historical tie between Indonesia and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, this cookie is known as katte tong, and is ultimately derived from the European cat tongue biscuit.

In French, it's called langues-de-chat and this biscuit actually comes from the Netherlands.

In Indonesia, kue lidah kucing is widely known. Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer, reflection, and community. A commemoration of Muhammad's first revelation., the annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.

Fasting from dawn to sunset is fard (obligatory) for all adult Muslims who are not acutely or chronically ill, traveling, elderly, breastfeeding, diabetic, or menstruating. The predawn meal is referred to as suhur, and the nightly feast that breaks the fast is called iftar. Although fatwas have been issued declaring that Muslims who live in regions with midnight sun or polar night should follow the timetable of Mecca, it is common practice to follow the timetable of the closest country where night can be distinguished from the day.

The spiritual rewards (thawab) of fasting are believed to be multiplied during Ramadan. Accordingly, Muslims refrain not only from food and drink, but also from tobacco products, sexual relations, and sinful behavior, devoting themselves instead to salat (prayer) and recitation of the Quran.

Like other Turkish families, breakfast and bread are something in my house that inseparable 😊. We enjoy bread breakfast until dinner.

We always eat bread at our breakfast time. Yes, I have also one or two jars of cereal, but those only for "very" emergency use 😄 . Even my kid is not a fan of breakfast with cereal.

Besides bread, pastry, bagels, or soft bread (we call it poğaça) are also served at breakfast time. And if you visit Turkiye and you go to a local restaurant (or hotel restaurant) for breakfast, you will find traditional Turkish breakfast. Which you can find anything... I mean everything! They will serve start from bread to pastries (any kind of pastries), menemen, fried egg in Turkish " sucuk" (Turkish spicy sausage), many kinds of jams, and more. And of course, breakfast in Turkiye is not complete without a hot Turkish tea 😊

In Turkey there are a few types of Poğaça... some use yeast (they call mayalı Poğaça) and some use baking powder. My post now it's yeast poğaça type.

No yeast version close to pastry texture or shortbread more than bread-y texture. For the non-yeast version, you can visit my previous post here. Or Check the category section " Börekler" for more variation.

And as I mentioned before, my today post is poğaça with yeast- so I can call it breakfast bread. Because the texture is more to soft bread (typical Asian soft bread). Poğaça have many topping and filling variation. Start from potato, cheese, sesame paste, sausage, and more.

In Banyuwangi town-where this food originally came from-people called it "bolu kura-kura" (literally means turtle cake). Because the shape is like a turtle's shell.

Banyuwangi is one small city in East Java.

A chiffon cake combines methods used with sponge cakes and conventional cakes. It includes baking powder and vegetable oil, but the eggs are separated and the whites are beaten before being folded into the batter, creating a rich flavor like an oil cake, but with a lighter texture that is more like a sponge cake.

Roll cake, some call jelly roll or swiss roll is a type of rolled sponge cake filled with whipped cream, jam, or icing

In Indonesia, the roll cake is called  "bolu gulung", bolu means cake in Indonesian language while gulung means rolled. 

Most bakeries sell bolu gulung daily, and they are filled with buttercream, cheese, or fruit jam. It is also very common for bolu gulung to be sold by the slice, but some shops sell by both slice and roll.

Roll cake always becomes my first choice for my family tea time. 

Also, it could be a centerpiece of your big family gathering or a little tea party with friends. Everybody would love it.

Since we love roll cake so much I bake it often with various recipes and flavors. Yes, this is what I like about roll cake, we can vary the flavors and filling too so we won't get bored with flat taste cake.

Most of the time, the word "börek" is accompanied in Turkish by a descriptive word referring to the shape, ingredients of the pastry, the cooking methods, or for or a specific region where it is typically prepared.

In Turkey, we know many varieties of börek depends it filling and how to make it. 

Su böreği  literally means 'water börek' is one of the most common types. Layers of dough are boiled briefly in hot water, then a mixture of feta cheese, parsley, and oil is scattered between the layers. The whole thing is brushed with butter and laid in a masonry oven (we call it taş fırını) to cook.

For example we have Gül böreği  or 'rose börek', also known as Yuvarlak böreği  or 'round or spiral börek' in English, which are rolled into small spirals.

Çiğ börek or Çibörek or 'raw börek' is a half-round shaped börek, filled with raw minced meat and fried in oil on the concave side of the sac, very popular in places with a thriving Tatar community, such as Eskişehir, Polatlı, and Konya.

This is the first madeleine I baked. Why? no other reason than I just owned the pan recently after years of searching in the local market here. Madeleine, it's not common here in Turkey so finding madeleine pan is difficult as finding a wallet where I forget to put 😊

I was trying to purchase this pan for few years here, but then I just found it online this year. And I just get this deep madeleine mold with shell shape. Mostly shallow model here is made of silicon which I am not sure it's heatproof or good enough to bake madeleine. I will try to buy that later after I try this deep madeleine pan 1st.
