If you visit Turkiye and eat in restaurants, you may find this side dish. It's called "Beğendi" (read; bé-é-ndi), made of ember roasted aubergine and cook in cheesy white sauce.

This yummy creamy dish is usually served with any kind of protein such as Roasted Chicken, steak, roasted beef tongue, or kebab until kofta (köfte).
If never eat this, you should try it soon. Leave me a comment below if you love it or hate it 😊

Making this dish is very easy, and ember roasted (direct heat grill) gives such a special and deliciously smoky flavor.

Rempeyek is derived from the Javanese onomatopoeia "peyek", depicting the sound of a crisp cracker breaking.

Rempeyek is often associated with Javanese cuisine, served to accompany "pecel/ petjel" (vegetables in peanut sauce) or other meals, or as a snack. Today, it is common throughout Indonesia, and is also popular in Malaysia following the migration of Javanese immigrants in the early 19th century.

It's my favorite cracker. Made from rice flour with some spices and fried in deep oil. The frying and making methods are typical and very unique. That is, on a deep frying wok, spread out the batter dough on the edge of the wok until it produces a very thin layer of cracker, I made a simple video also to give you an illustration of how to make this unique and traditional Indonesian "rempeyek".

Topping can vary from peanuts, green beans, black eye beans, small soybean, or dried small anchovies until dried small shrimp. A little tricky and need more patience in making it.

The cultural diversity in Indonesia makes Indonesian cuisine has the most unique and rich in the world.
Meals are generally simple, the plentiful use of various roots, spices, grasses, and leaves adds zest to most dishes. The common use of the chili pepper may mislead some to believe that all Indonesian dishes are spicy and hot. But actually not really true. Most of our meals have relatively mild spices and tastes.
In addition, most Indonesian food is prepared with contrasting flavors, such as a spicy-sweet or hot sauce served over a bed of plain white rice, a popular meal throughout the country.

And today I will share one of vegetarian food that fresh yet flavorful; Plecing kangkung

Try my another vegetarian side dish: Indonesian mix vegetables cook in coconut milk

Plecing kangkung is an Indonesian spicy water spinach dish from Lombok island. Plecing kangkung made from blanched kangkung leaf (water spinach) served cold with fresh plecing sambal relish made from ground red chili pepper, shallots, and bird's eye chili.

As a side dish for Lombok Ayam taliwang dish, plecing kangkung usually also served with additional vegetables such as bean sprouts, string beans, fried peanuts and urap's grated spicy coconut dressing. Outside Lombok island, plecing kangkung is also commonly served in neighboring island Bali.

We also have cooked pickle and generally serve as side dish- we call it "acar kuning" or yellow cooked pickle.

So if you want to experience Indonesian food, here are I share some fresh pickles I made. You serve some pickle with fried rice, fried noodle, and some Indonesian foods.

Indonesian mix vegetables cook in coconut milk / Resep Sayur Lodeh. #sayurlodeh #Indonesianfood #coconutmilk #vegetariancurry #tofu #tempeh #vegancurryrecipe

Selam everybody...... Merhaba from Turkey.

Today's post is about my childhood meal. Me and siblings grew up with this dish. My mom or my grandmother usually cooked this for us. İt's mix vegetable (curry-look alike) cook in coconut milk. Most often tofu or tempeh also mixed in it. And if we have enough money (at that time) to buy shrimps, my mom or grandma also put some small shrimp in it.

This Called sayur lodeh ( or in Javanese language calls Jangan Lodeh). Javanese curry-like dish, content with various vegetables, like eggplant, chayote, zucchini, young green jackfruit, bamboo shoot, yardlong bean, green bean, corn and so on. Just any leftover vegetable you have in your fridge can be added.
And for protein addition, we add some tofu, tempeh or shrimp.
İt is so simple and cheap. That the reason why this was most repeatable menu in our house during my childhood.

We eat this with plain steamed rice, adding sambal terasi is a must. Together with fried protein - like fish or chicken- as side dish, this is the most humble and so traditional of Indonesian food. And forget to mention it's vegan and healthy.

Beside rice, noodle is staple meal in Indonesia.
In fact we have so many type of noodle commonly consumed e.g;
1. egg noodle (mie telor)--see my homemade egg noodle here , here and here.
2. Cellophane noodles (so'un) -- made of potato starch mix with green bean flour. The texture is very soft, suitable for soup, fried so'un noodle or filling for Indonesian fried dumpling. Sold in dry form, soak in hot water until soft and then ready to be processed into various kinds of cuisine.
3. Kwetiau / Rice stick noodles. Made by steam rice flour and water.
4. Bihun / Rice Vermicelli. Rice vermicelli is made of rice flour, the color is pure white and the texture is very soft. This noodle is very easy to cook so no need to be boiled, just soaked in hot water. Usually sold in dry form in plastic packaging.

Beside those noodle İ mentioned above we also familiar with neighbouring countries noodle, such as soba, somen noodles, or ramen from Japan.
Or some noodle type from China like Misua and Hokkien noodle.

Etsiz Çiğ Köfte / Turkish Meatless Raw kofte "meatball"

Selam.....Merhaba from Turkey.

Merhaba..... Have you been to Turkey before?
Turkey, where you can indulge your eyes with countless beautiful and historical places and scenes. And the place which satisfy your taste with dozens of shockingly delicious street foods.

Many of my previous post of Turkish food are street food with homemade style cause İ love experiment and taste new flavor of Turkish street food then try to copy for cooking at home.
But of course İ love to learn basic and traditional Turkish food that local women serve for their family as well.
And my post today is Etsiz Çiğ Köfte, literally means meatless raw "meatball". İt's no meat version of Çiğ Köfte (read; chee kuf-te),  one of Turkey's favorite fast food/ street food. The raw meat (non fat) mixed and knead with fine grain bulgur and many kind of baharat / spices. Çiğ Köfte traditionally shaped in small long balls serve with many fresh vegetables, cucumber pickle and chili pepper pickle, with adding of sour pomegranate molasses (nar eksisi) and lemon juice. Some love to enjoy with lavash (flatbread) while other just wrap it with lettuce.

Lento dari Kacang tunggak / Indonesian style Black eyed peas fritter

Please Scroll down for recipe in English

Assalamu'alaykum...Merhaba dari Turkey.

Kalau sudah mulai masuk musim dingin kayak gini maunya pengen nyemil yang gurih dan pedas. Terus minumnya teh panas.... halllaa... apa'an sih. Musim dingin dijadiin alesan...heheheh..padahal kalau mo ngemil..ngemil aja kali ya.... (^,^)

Lagi pengen makan lento nih.

Spicy Honey Garlic Grilled Corn on the cob

Selam everybody...... Merhaba from Turkey.

I have sweet memories quite attached until now about grilled corn on the cob.

This grilled corn is one of the foods which was familiar to me since childhood. I remember every evening after learnt reading Qur'an, in front of that small mosque (masjid) there was always a lot of people selling various traditional snacks at that time including grilled corn.

The seller always sold very warm grilled corn fresh from charcoal placed on wide plate-a like pottery. Corns were grilled directly over the charcoal, and once in a while there was a sound  "pletak..pletak..pletak" came from busted corn kernels. Kids mostly surrounded the seller really close to the charcoal .. so when there was a spark from the charcoal we were all simultaneously moving backward while shouting and giggled.

Grilled corn on the cob in Indonesia mostly open their stall as street food and the number of them become double when cold rainy season comes. Different from my childhood, grilled corn now days varied with dozen of flavor basting over the grilled corn. Start from sweet and sour, hot spicy, cheesy savory, buttery garlic sauce and much more. I tried them all and I love them all!

So here I am..with unmistakeable taste of summer – grilled corn on the cob with my fave spicy honey garlic sauce.

Spicy cucumber side dish Oi-muchim 오이무침

Selam everybody....Merhaba from Turkey...

If somebody ask me, which one do I prefer, Korean Drama or Korean food? spontaneously my answer would be korean food...
yeeaahh...I know...sorry for Korean drama's lover over there... And don't ask me further question: WHY?  my answer will break your heart ^,^

I like Korean food in moderate way, I like it cause some (some-not all) Korean food are acceptable by my asian tongue. Kimchi is my favorite one. I make kimchi once or twice in a year when I saw napa cabbage at local farmer market--even some friends of mine ordered Kimchi from me, they like my homemade Kimchi ^,^. Thank you girls!

And my today's post is another simple, healthy yet scrumptious side dish. You can make it maybe in 5 minutes only with all ingredients ready in your pantry ^,^
It call Oi-muchim or spicy cucumber.
