Nastar isi keju / Sweet Cheesy tarts cookies~melt in your mouth

Resep dalam Bahasa Indonesia ada di bagian bawah

Merhaba From Türkiye 👋

First of all, I'd like to thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you can come back, again and again, to check up on any beyond Indonesian or Turkish food or something sweets that you might love. Your comments and emails brighten my days and make this simple blog thing worthwhile 😍💛

When you read the title of this post you maybe think this is savory cookies. But NO! not at all. This is another version of pineapple tarts cookies, but with cheese filling instead of pineapple jam. Are you starting interested? Well, you should (^,^)

Pineapple tarts cookies are one of Indonesian traditional (and some neighboring countries)  cookies that commonly made and serve during a religious holiday such as Eid-el Fitr or christmas along with many other traditional cookies like; kaastengels, putri salju, pastel mini, nastar and more. Check other cookies recipe on "COOKIES" category list.

Nastar isi keju / Cheesy tarts cookies~melt in your mouth

As I mentioned above this cookies is combination/ variation from classic nastar (pineapple tarts cookies). Beside cheese you can also fill this nastar with chocolate or homemade apple jam like I did on my old post. But for me, still classic one with homemade pineapple jam is my best fave.

For the cookies shell I use NCC's (Indonesian Cooking Club) recipe. And for filling I took from one Indonesian blogger: "Coba-coba yuk" belongs to Isna Sutanto.

The whole process exactly the same as we make classic nastar. We make the filling first then the cookie shell. The perfect nastar for among Indonesian is should has "melt in your mouth" in texture, smooth and shiny at the outside, no obvious crack and smooth (^,^)

Semprit susu / Condensed Milk Spritz Cookies (eggless)

Selam everybody..... Merhaba from Turkey...

If you are my regular reader of this blog you might notice that these couple weeks I post many cookies recipe. Yep... I made many cookies few days before Eid al Fitr as Indonesian and some other countries' tradition to celebrate Eid Mubarek.

Different from Turkish tradition that serve baklava and share a lot of candy to kids, in my homeland we welcome our guest with jars of various cookies. Check my Cookies category list to see other traditional and classic cookies I had made.

And what I am about to share today is semprit susu or milk spritz cookies made of condensed milk with cornstarch. I found the recipe from one cooking group in facebook. It become new fave and popular among Indonesian baker since it has melt in mouth texture as Indonesian prefer.

Making this cookies is super-easy. You just cream the butter with condensed milk. No electronic mixer require, if you beat the butter until pale and fluffy you might end up with flat cookie. Add in the cornstarch and just use wooden spoon or spatula to combine well. Add the essence as your prefer to give aroma to the cookies. Bake the cookies at low temperature.

Resep Donat kentang/ Potato Donuts recipe

Resep dalam bhs Indonesia ada di bagian bawah

Selam everybody.... Merhaba from Turkey.

This is actually very late post. I made this potato doughnuts last weekend, but since the pictures and recipe slipped somewhere in my computer, I just found it today and want to share it with you right away.

This potato doughnut is pretty familiar among Indonesian food bloggers. We use almost same source of recipe and method and we are all very much happy with the result. The doughnut it self keep fluffy and yummy even 2nd or sometimes 3rd days when you keep tightly in airtight container in fridge.

But I think no yummy yet fluffy doughnut can survive up to 2nd or 3rd day, right? The recipe I adapted totally from Ibu Fatmah Bahalwan (Natural Cooking Club owner).

You can just simply enjoy the doughnuts with icing sugar or any topping you like. Even you can flatten the dough and make your filling doughnut. So here the recipe.

Lokma /Turkish donuts in simple syrup

Selam everybody....Merhaba from Turkey...

What I am going to share with you today is Lokma.

Lokma is a traditional Turkish dessert made of flour, sugar, yeast and salt bathed with syrup or honey. Lokma was first cooked by the sultan's cooks at Ottoman Empire palaces, and for centuries, it was unknown how it was made. After the 20th century, it became a tradition for Turks to cook and serve lokmas to neighbours.

This lokma is also can be found around neighbouring countries like in Greek called loukoumades. Or Zeppola of Italy and in Iran or Iraq, called luqmat al-qadi from Arabic language  لقمة القاضي

These luscious bites — the word lokma means “a bite” or “a morsel” — are the doughnuts of the Orient, crispy on the outside, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture on the inside. Served hot as they emerge bubbling from the pot, sprinkled with a dusting of pure cinnamon, they are also found in markets, more commonly in Izmir, the third largest city of the nation.

Blood Orange Ogura Cake

Resep dalam bhs Indonesia ada di bagian bawah

Selam everybody...Merhaba from Turkey...

In some Asian blogger fellows I saw many posts about ogura cake. Did you hear about Ogura cake?
Ogura cake, aka 相思蛋糕 / Xiāngsī dàngāo . No official sources why this cake name Ogura (Japanese language). Is it coming from Japan or invented in Japan or whatsoever.

It's just this cake become very popular among Asian baker and Asian cake lover. The texture incredibly cotton soft, light, smooth texture. Rich in flavor yet light in sweetness.

The method for making this cake same as making chiffon cake using separated yolks and egg white method. The only tiny different is using additional 1 whole egg into yolk batter. The rest are exactly same as chiffon including invert the cake during cooling time. For this ogura you may use any pan you like, round or square or even tube pan.

Chicken Sausage Rolls

Selam Everybody.... Merhaba from Turkey....

There is a time in a month or two I feel like don't want to do anything just lay down on my bed. When I was single a long time ago and that time came to me like a virus I usually spontaneously and unprofessionally absent from my office work... 😃

And now...when there is a time in a month or two I feel like don't want to do anything.... I can not! ^,^ With one kid asking full attention the whole day I have already "not so active" on my Facebook or tweeter anymore these past 2 years...
I just write and post in this blog with simple words and shortly as I already sleepy doing it late at night. So.. the point is I can not have lazy days anymore, not now...maybe a few years later... 😊

And for cooking also...I would find something as easiest and fast as I can... simple, quick, and maybe can be frozen to eat later again. Like this Chicken sausage roll. I made them about a dozen, eat some, and freeze the rest.
But that was my plan..couldn't resist eating this little yummy more than 3 as a snack together with hot tea in these cold days. They didn't make it into the freezer... ^,^

Susamlı Gevrek Toplar (Sesame balls cookies)

If "plan A" didn't work... don't worry, there are still 25 more letters in alphabet  (^,^)

Selam Everybody...Merhaba from Turkey....

Talking about alphabet... in Turkçe (Turkish language) we have 29 letters seven of which are (Ç, Ğ, I, İ, Ö, Ş, and Ü) but letters W, Q and X (replace by V, K and KS) do not occur in Turkish alphabet.

So Turkish has more than 26 other plans if "plan A" failed (^,^)
It was just an intermezzo from me.... the point is we should not give up on things we want to reach because - like other proverb says - many ways to go to Rome... right?

Well.... those are nothing to do with my recipe I'm going to share today because making this crunchy sesame balls you don't have to make plan A or B or C .... this snack is simple as it looks yet best companion for your tea or coffee time.

It's simple and quick to make so this is absolutely your choice when you have an unexpected guest come by.
This recipe I took from iyiyemeginsirri.blogcu.com with minor adjustments.

Indonesian food recipe, Bandung style steamed fish dumpling /Siomay Khas Bandung

“Being a mother is an attitude, not a biological relation.” ― Robert A. Heinlein

Selam everybody.... Merhaba from Turkiye..

Siomay (some people also call somay) is steamed fish dumpling serve with mix vegetables and tofu, flush with peanut sauce, kecap manis (sweet soy sauce), chili sauce and lemon juice or kaffir lime. So it's deliciously sweet-sour spicy dish.

Siomay is ubiquitous in Indonesian cities, It can be found in street-side food stalls, mobile carts, bicycle vendors, or even in restaurants. But the most popular place is in Bandung (West Java) so people call it siomay Bandung.

This food derived from Chinese cuisine shui mai (or shumai or shaomai). Beside influenced by Dutch cuisine (in Dutch colonial long time ago), Indonesian cuisine also had influence by other countries like India, Arabic, and Chinese.

And my today's post is Bandung style siomay. I use haddock fish fillet mix with shrimps, but optionally feel free to use chicken minced mix with shrimp/ fish. But my suggestion if you mix with chicken, use bigger portion of fish/ shrimp than chicken meat.

For other vegetables complements, usually people use bitter gourd/ bitter melon, white cabbage- boiled and rolled, boiled potato. There's also tofu and hard-boiled eggs.
Enjoy your siomay with lime juice (mostly from kaffir lime), sweet soy sauce and chilly sauce.

Jagung Manis Keju (Cheesy Sweet Corn Cup)

Selam everybody..... Merhaba from Turkey

This is my kid's favorite snack.. I sometimes serve this between lunch and supper time.
I like it also. It's slightly savory, slightly sweet and make me feel really full without being guilty (^,^) ... with reduce a little butter and cheese for me, this snack absolutely healthy.

Summer time like now days, we can meet many vendors on street selling this kind of satiated snack. But here in Turkey, the taste bit different from sweet corn cup sells in Indonesia. Sweet corn cup here simply mix the corn kernels with A LITTLE part of butter, for optional topping they let us choose ketchup, acılı sos (spicy sauce), and pomegranate vinegar. No other variation like when you visit Indonesian sweet corn vendors.

In Indonesian vendors we can have some sweet corn cup variant such as: cheese, mayonnaise, bbq sauce, milky sweet, and I don't remember else (^,^)

What I made today is sweet corn cup base on my taste with cheese topping. Of course feel free to choose your own taste and topping, it's basically boiled kernel mix with butter. For further taste and variation are depends on your liking.

Strawberry and Chocolate hand pie

Assalamu'alaikum....... Merhaba from Turkey..

It's late post.... actually I made this few days ago but since early Ramadhan day 1 I've been busy with things around the house. And like many other time in Ramadhan I have a little less sleep. And thanks God this Ramadhan in summer time the weather is so friendly... so many rain... air is so fresh with bit of windy sometimes... It's really helpful to keep my energy still fresh during day light.

Today's post is simply easy strawberry with chocolate hand pie. It's so simple, quick, easy yet double yummy. Serve it with vanilla ice cream or simple whipped cream will be more delish. But I serve it with Kaymak, it's a creamy dairy product similar to clotted cream, made from the milk of water buffalos, cows, sheep, or goats
Mostly recipe I googling around is directly put fresh strawberry over the pastry dough but as my own experiences with fresh fruity pie, it will end up with wet and messy looking pie. Yes.. some people okay with that.. But this time I want my pie looks pretty as I bought from patisserie (*_*)... So I bake my strawberry before filling it to the dough. The result is so nice and yummy in taste yet pretty good looking hand pie...

Money Bag dumpling made from scratch

Selam everybody....Merhaba from Turkiye

Dumplings are a food that consists of small pieces of dough, either cooked alone or wrapped around a filling. They can be based on flour, potatoes or bread, and may include meat, fish, vegetables, or sweets. They may be cooked by boiling, steaming, simmering, frying, or baking. They may have a filling, or there may be other ingredients mixed into the dough. Dumplings may be sweet or savoury. They can be eaten by themselves, in soups or stews, with gravy, or in any other way. While some dumplings resemble solid water-boiled doughs, such as gnocchi, others such as wontons or ravioli feature a wrapping of dough around a filling-Wiki
I love dumpling and as Asian I prefer Asian -- any kind-- of Asian dumpling. Whether it's steaming or fried or pot sticker.

I was craving this "money bag" dumpling for while ago but I keep postpone it due to my "spring cleaning"  schedule which I just could do this early May since cold weather and raining so often in last April. You know, making dumpling from starch takes some times. We must make the wonton wrap first, then make filling, then fry, then prepare the dipping sauce.. (^,^) . What do you think?? Will you still make it?? It's worthy though ... (^,^)

As some sources is a traditional dim sum brunch includes various types of steamed buns such as cha siu baau, dumplings and rice noodle rolls (cheong fun), which contain a range of ingredients, including beef, chicken, pork, prawns and vegetarian options. Many dim sum restaurants also offer plates of steamed green vegetables, roasted meats, congee porridge and other soups. Dessert dim sum is also available and many places offer the customary egg tart.

Pastel goreng yang renyah (Indonesian style vegetables crunchy pastry)

Still with Indonesian (kue) snack "parade" (^,^)
My today post now Pastel Goreng. Pastel is also part of traditional Indonesian snack which influenced by European cuisine. Pastel literally mean pastry and goreng is Fried in Indonesian language. So it is crunchy fried pastry, traditionally filled with vegetables e.g carrots, potatoes, green bean, onion and we put hard boiled egg (slice) in the middle.
Now days, many filling variant such as rice noodle, etc.. but I prefer traditional one.
It served and eaten with fresh birdeye chilly or some region serve with pickles.

Frankly speaking I wouldn't make this snack when I was in my homeland... Many Kue seller with various and mouthwatering of Indonesian traditional snack along alley or streets. Start from street stall until big famous bakery shop.... Oooh how I miss my homeland now...

And for you who want to experience this kue Pastel goreng, you can try it in your kitchen...

Onde-Onde Isi Kacang hijau / Indonesian style glutinous dumpling balls

Onde Onde is one of Indonesian traditional snack or Jajan pasar (kue). Jajan Pasar (kue) is Indonesian bite-sized snack or dessert food. Kue is a fairly broad term in Indonesian to describe a wide variety of snacks; cakes, cookies, fritters, pies, scones, and patisserie. Kue are popular snacks in Indonesia, which has the largest variety of kue.

Indonesian kue are usually categorized according to its moisture. Roughly divided under two groups, kue basah (lit: "wet kue") and kue kering (lit: "dry kue"). In fact, the word kue in Indonesian language is used to refer to not only these kinds of traditional snack, but also all types of cake and some types of pastries. Most kue kering are technically pastries and many Western cakes can be considered as kue basah.

This Onde onde is one of kue basah category in Jajan pasar's variety. Make from Glutinous rice flour (black or white) covered by sesame seed with (traditionally) filled with mung bean (kacang hijau). Some  modern onde onde already modified with various filling such as chocolate, cheese, red bean, etc.

#jajanpasar Gemblong ( Indonesian Glutinous rice cake coated with palm sugar)

Gemblong.. sound funny in your ear right? (^,^). It's one of the traditional Indonesian snacks (Jajan Pasar). You can get it at a traditional market or peddler in each alley in Indonesia, particularly in Java. This snack is made from glutinous rice flour mixed with fresh grated coconut and coconut milk, then fried and coated with palm sugar.

I remember this snack (jajan pasar) is one of regular one among many other traditional snack I had every morning accompanied my morning tea for breakfast. Yes.. some people eat nasi goreng or nasi uduk for breakfast sometimes, but I need something lighter than rice for my breakfast, so sometimes I just have some various jajan pasar.

Check category Indonesian Snack (jajan pasar/ kue) for more Indonesian Kueh or snack.
If you are in Indonesia, you don't have to make some effort to make this at home. But for you who can not find this snack around you, here I write this gemblong recipe for you to try.
